It was a beautiful fall Sunday and we headed out to Westview Orchards on the east side (this is when we lived in Detroit). We took a hayride out to the orchard to pick apples. I remember carrying the large bag of apples and Jon not offering once to carry it for me. Soon enough I would find out why!
Our bag was pretty much full and I heard the tractor in the distance coming back around. I told Jon we needed to hurry up and catch the tractor. He asked me to slow down and I said no. Then he tried to give me an apple to put in the bag, but there was a worm on the bottom of it so I said it was nasty and told him to toss it and turned to walk away. Finally he tapped me on the shoulder and asked me to slow down again. I turned around and I saw an apple with something really shiny in it!! Jon got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife! I remember thinking it was all so surreal. Was it really happening? I HONESTLY had NO idea he was going to ask me then. It was a wonderful surprise!
Afterwards Jon told me he freaked out when I told him he had a bad apple and to just toss it because he had already taken a bite out of it and placed my engagement ring in it. He thought I was going to take the apple and throw it along with my ring. Good thing I didn't!
The apple is still with us. We keep it in the freezer- it looks a little nasty now. We've thought about getting it bronzed. Can they do that to food?
| See the little opening at the bottom? That's where my ring was. |
And...because I just got my MacBook with all of the data transferred, I have this picture from the day of!
Aww, that is such a cute story!
