Friday's Fancies - April Showers

We are almost to April!  April, can you believe it?!?!?  This week's Friday's Fancies theme is April Showers.  I decided to take a different approach and show you a few pictures from the rainy part of our wedding day (it rained, snowed, sleeted, and the sun came out...it was a crazy October day).

Zou Bisou Bisou

I ran out at lunch today to take care of a few errands.  As I was driving back to work, Zou Bisou Bisou came on my satellite radio.  I love Mad Men, but the jury is still out for me on if that song is radio worthy...

What a great couple of days

Kate and Geoff left this morning...total bummer.  We had a fantastic time together, but of course it went by too quickly.

We definitely enjoyed our meals together!  In N Out, sushi, chips & guac for
happy hour, create your own breakfast burritos, seafood, and more!

Lots of posing for the camera (although somehow we managed to
never got a shot of the 4 of us together).

Oh yeah!  Kate is pregnant!  Can't wait to be an aunt again!

There were some intense tetherball games.

Bonfire on the beach!

We had a great time together!  It was so nice to show them around and relax together.
It's a little too quiet in here tonight for me though.

My little patient

Poor Wilma is under the weather.  She has a bladder infection.  At first we blamed her peeing in the house as behavioral.  Well, when it continued to happen (and in different spots) I wasn't convinced.  I did some googling and found out that it might be a bladder infection.  We had to take her into the vet first Saturday morning.  When I say first thing, I mean first thing.  They had to drain her bladder so she couldn't go to the bathroom before.  Well, we picked her up out of bed and put her on my lap in the car (the dreaded car!!!) and drove a mile down the street.  We carried her inside the vet and they took her back immediately- success!  Her tests came back yesterday and they were positive for a bladder infection.  She's on meds now to help clear everything up.

And, to make things worse, we took away her beloved couch yesterday.  We finally got our new one so the old one had to go.

I took one last picture of her on it as Jon was taking the cushions out.

Applebee's Oriental Chicken Salad

I found this recipe on Pinterest and couldn't resist.  This is my favorite dish at Applebee's.  The dressing is so darn good and I think it's spot-on in the recipe.

Applebee's Oriental Chicken Salad
from "Mommy?  I'm hungry!"

Oriental Dressing
3 Tbsp. honey
1 1/2 Tbsp. Rice Vinegar
1/4 c. Mayonnaise
1 tsp. Dijon mustard
1/8 tsp. Sesame oil

Blend together all ingredients in a small bowl with a whisk or mixer. Refrigerate while you work on the salad.

Salad
2 pieces of Crispy Chicken Strips (frozen or from the deli...I used frozen)
bagged salad with asst. lettuces & veggies
bagged broccoli slaw
1 Tbsp. sliced almonds, toasted (I bought already toasted almonds)
1/4 c. fried won ton strips (Jon couldn't find these at the store and bought chow mein noodles instead)
1/4 cup mandarin slices, drained

Bake the chicken strips according to the package directions (if you bought frozen ones).  For the last few minutes, add the almonds on the pan that the chicken is on so they can get toasted (skip this step if you bought already toasted almonds).  Remove and cool.  Cut up the chicken.

Mix together some of each (a good handfull per person) of the lettuce and broccoli slaw.  Top with cut up chicken, almonds, wontons (chow mein noodles) and madarin slices.  Drizzle the dressing on top.

Weekend roundup

Sunday night...we meet again.  No offense, but we always see each other too soon.  Anywho...I'd say we had a pretty good weekend.  Here's what we were up to!

Friday night we stayed in.  Immediately when I got home from work I turned on the Michigan and Duke basketball games.  I was going crazy!  You see...I had U of M and Duke playing in my final game.  Come on boys!  Clearly I'm out of the running...  After I got over the pain, we grabbed some Chipotle for dinner (sans meat due to Lent) and started watching Boardwalk Empire on Netflix.

Saturday we managed to look past the rain and wind and head out for some green beer.

Me, Christine, and Rebecca

Rebecca gave me half of her slinky and it was definitely my favorite accessory.

Sunday our new dishwasher was delivered (thanks Mr. Landlord).  I have been washing our dishes by hand for almost two weeks and my hands are tired of it!  It helps remind me not to take conveniences such as this for granted.

In the afternoon we took a little trip to the nursery.  I have been itching to get a citrus tree and today was the day!  Meet our lime tree!  Jon and I can't settle on a name.  We know the tree is a boy...well, I declared it a boy.  :)  We are going back and forth between Tanqueray and Scurvy.  What's your opinion?

Four days until Kate & Geoff arrive!

Friday's Fancies - St. Patrick's Day

We are headed out to celebrate with friends tomorrow and man do I wish I had this outfit to put on.  I like to think of it as a "classy leprechaun look"!  Happy St. Patrick's Day!  Cheers to green beer!

Be sure to check out the other St. Patrick's Day looks on {long distance loving}!

11 Questions

Hi there!  Welcome to longer days!  I love when we spring ahead.  Sure, we miss an hour of sleep, but I'm totally fine with that to gain more sunlight in the evening!  In fact, Jon and I are going to grill dinner tonight to celebrate!  How are you going to use your extra hour of sunlight?

Kate tagged me last week in her blog chain letter.  Here we go!

1. Why did you start blogging?
I don't really know why I started blogging.  I started reading blogs when I was planning our wedding and have kept reading them ever since.  As ridiculous as it sounds, I think I wanted to be like those girls. It was a great way to keep my family and friends back home updated on what we were doing too.  I'm so thankful for starting to blog because I've met so many great bloggers that are now my friends!

2. Where did you go to college and why did you choose it?
For undergrad, I went to Central Michigan University.  I basically chose it for 4 reasons: I liked the size of campus, I liked that it was close enough to home so it would be easy to go home on the weekend if I wanted, and the two most important reasons....my sister went there and my best friend decided to go there too!

3. Do you love your job? If not, what would you rather be doing?
Do I love my job?  No, I don't.  I certainly wish I did.  I think I'd feel much more of a sense of fulfillment in life and enjoy it more.  There are so many things I'd rather do...I'd rather being an event coordinator, I'd rather be an interior designer...clearly something that's much more creative than what I do now.

4. What(or who) is your biggest motivator everyday?
My biggest motivator is my Grandma Spindler.  There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of her.  She was such a strong lady and I just smile when I think about her.

5. If you could have one song playing in your head at all times, what would it be?
Oh man, this is tough...I get so sick of music quickly.  Maybe "Celebrate Me Home" by Kenny Loggins.  It always gets me excited for the holidays!

6. What does your dream home look like?
It is very open and airy, lots of white accents, definitely has a three season porch, an island in the kitchen, a mud room, it's big enough to feel comfortable, but not too big to manage cleaning it, and it has big closets.

7. If you had a large sum of money to spend on yourself, what would you buy?
This is a tough one...I'd love to get a new flower bouquet delivered each week, I'd love to get a whole new wardrobe, I'd love go on fantastic trips, I'd love to buy a cabin up by my parent's in Michigan, I would hire someone to do my hair and makeup everyday...how big is this sum of money?  :)

8. What is the biggest risk you have ever taken?
My biggest risk is probably moving to California.  It was totally new to both of us and we don't have any family out here.  So far, so good though!

9. What do you enjoy most about blogging?
Hands down...meeting all of my blogger friends.  Their support and our friendship mean so much!

10. What do you collect?
Nothing...I'm pretty boring like that.  I don't like stuff to just have stuff.

11. Do you have a tatoo? What'd you get and why? If not, would you ever consider it?
No, I don't and I'd never (never say never, right?) get one.  I think they are too permanent.

Now, on to some friends who I would like to tag, please answer the questions below (plus make up your own questions and tag other blogger friends, keeping the chain alive!):

Britt @ True Britt
Christina @ Virgina Belle
Kate @ Stripes and Polka Dots
Kelsey @ Eat, Drink, Be a Tourist
Meg & Henning Love
Savannah @ Making Memories
Becky @ Welcome to the Good Life!

Here are my questions:
1.  What was your favorite subject in school?
2.  If you could meet one celebrity, who would it be?
3.  What's your favorite holiday?
4.  Are you a dog or cat person?
5.  What was your favorite trip you have ever taken?
6.  Who do you look up to?
7.  If you could live anywhere else where would you?
8.  Do you prefer coffee or tea?
9.  How many siblings to do you have?
10.  What was the biggest decision you have ever made?
11.  Flip flops or high heels?

Just at the right time

Just as I was saying I'm homesick, I received a package from my aunt today.  She has been knitting and made these scarves for me.  It was so sweet of her and at just the right time.  I love them!  They are beautiful!  Thanks Aunt Sarah!

Friday's Fancies - Tangerine Tango

TGIF!!!  It's the start of another week without Jon, but Wilma and I relish our girl time together.  She's the perfect companion when I'm alone.  I think Wilma needs a new collar in Pantone's color of the year- Tangerine Tango!  Shopping trip??

Speaking of Tangerine Tango...it's this week's Friday's Fancies theme.  When I went to find some inspiration to create an outfit, I saw this beauty on Pinterest and thought it was perfect.  Why recreate something when the look I love is right here?!?!  I adore the aqua pops of color with it!
